Dawn Russell, a Lady in England, to promote empowerment and self confidence in youth today
Aramis and Designer Fragrances announced that they are working with Dawn Russell, a Lady in England, to promote the message of the C-THRU Fragrance brand. “Dawn is an influential voice in helping young women learn to be proud of who they are,” says Melissa Gabel, Director, Global Marketing. “By sharing her story of overcoming adversity, she is teaching them the tools they need to fight their own struggles – social, physical or emotional – so they can really find strength in themselves, which is what C-THRU is all about,” Gabel adds. “To have these young women think about her when they put on their fragrance every single day is reinforcing a powerful message.”
Growing up in big cities in America and Europe, attending boarding school in Massachusetts and then college in Connecticut, Dawn Russell led a fortunate life, modeling at one point for Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren. At age 25 she was diagnosed with stage III cancer and told to make out a will.
“When I got sick I had to stop and reassess everything,” Dawn recalls of the three-year period she searched for eastern medicines to compensate for the radio and chemotherapy she was unable to have due to a dangerous bone infection she got during her fourth surgery. “I had to assess the physical things – supplements, exercise – but I also had to evaluate my habits and friendships. I had to ask myself, what am I doing, who am I and how do all of these things make me feel?”
Combining traditional medical treatments with treatments rooted in blood work analysis, meditation, yoga, herbal supplements, nutrition and exercise, Russell was able to help heal herself. During this time she also met her husband, a member of the British aristocracy, and through their marriage she became a Lady in England.
Splitting her time between the UK and the United States, Russell was really able to hone in on what she describes as lack of “self-confidence” in young women living in America today. Russell feels with all of the reality shows and tabloids, consumerism has gotten to such a point that young women think they need these things to be worthy. Feeling a responsibility to give back after being so blessed with good health, a loving husband and great friends, Russell has devoted much of her time to traveling the country, introducing tools and a new way of thinking that encourages young women to connect with themselves rather then relying on outside validation.

Aramis and Designer Fragrances announces the introduction of C-THRU, a new fragrance line for young women. Launching with three fragrances in its debut collection, C-THRU is designed to pay tribute to individual personalities with signature colors and scents. The C-THRU fragrances include: Ruby which evokes passion and confidence, Blue Opal celebrates spiritual balance and Purple Diamond suggests mysterious intrigue. The new fragrances allow young women to express their individuality through the scent of their choice.
“The C-THRU collection is about empowerment,” says Melissa Gabel, Director, Global Marketing. “Our goal with this brand is to present young, fashion conscious women with a different way to express themselves. It’s not about telling them where to fit in or conforming to a celebrity ideal,” Gabel adds, “but inviting them to discover more about who they are with our unique fragrances.”
Aramis and Designer Fragrances will launch a fragrance collection in the mass market with a prestige product approach. In addition to the superior quality fragrances with a message and price point that is accessible to younger consumers, there will be a national print advertising campaign and retail events to support the brand.

“We all have our problems,” Russell says. “For me it was my cancer. For them it could be divorcing parents, eating disorders or school issues. Fragrant trio, which was named after gems, was presented in 2008, in cooperation with Estee Lauder and Sarantis Group from Greece, as well as with perfumers of famous hoses IFF, Firmenich and Givaudan. This was the first time that the house of Estee Lauder invested in mass-market. The perfumes were named Blue Opal, Ruby and Purple Diamond. Blue Opal was created in cooperation with Firmenich. It expresses spirituality and balance, while introducing notes of watermelon and red berries in top, and lily and rose petals in heart. Base notes introduce moist leather accords. The perfume is available as 30 and 75 ml EDT and it aims at younger audience.
Ruby was created by perfumers of the house of IFF and it is dedicated to passionate, strong woman full of self-esteem. The fragrance includes aromas of melon, peach and bergamot in top. A heart introduces rose with freesia and raspberry, while a wave of sandalwood can be found in base. The perfume is available as 30 and 75 ml EDT and it aims at younger audience.
